Cover Story | Issue 4 Front Cover

This cover introduces various strategies for the recovery of spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). With the rapid increase in the number of spent LIBs, the environmental and economic significance of spent LIBs recycling is becoming increasingly apparent. In particular, the presence of high-value metals such as Co, Li, and Ni, makes the cathode materials present extremely valuable for recycling. This review focuses on the current main recovery directions for spent LIBs, including valuable metals recycling, regeneration of cathode materials, and preparation of other high value-added materials.

This cover introduces the unique crystal structure of low-symmetry 2D materials. Such low-symmetry crystal structure of the material is the main reason for the anisotropy of the electronic band structure, which leads to anisotropic effective mass of electrons or holes, and the interaction of electrons-phonons. It gives rise to some in-plane anisotropic properties that are not available in isotropic materials, such as anisotropic conductance, anisotropic carrier transport, anisotropic optical absorption. Thus, research on low-symmetry 2D materials will provide another degree of freedom to design and modulate electronic and optoelectronic devices.
